American Red Cross Lifeguard


The Christian County YMCA offers American Red Cross lifeguard certification at various times throughout the year. Participants must pass all prerequisites and attend all class times during the course.

 

Requirements Include:

  • 16 years old by the first day of training

  • 300 yard continuous swim (freestyle or breaststroke) using rhythmic breathing

  • 2 minute tread with hands in armpits

  • Timed event consisting of swimming 20 yards, surface dive into 9 ft. of water to retrieve a 10 pound object and return keeping face above water, exit water not using the ladder; this must be completed in under 1 minute and 40 seconds

 

This class is periodically offered throughout the year. All training is done at the Christian County YMCA. However, completion of the course does not guarantee employment. Please call the Y at 287-7271 for more information.

Junior Lifeguard


This program is designed to build a foundation of knowledge, attitudes, and skills for future lifeguards. Participants are not required to master or perfectly execute skills. They should learn techniques and build stamina during this program. The course does not certify participants in First Aid, CPR, AED or lifeguarding.

Prerequisites:

25 yd. freestyle and breaststroke, tread water 1 minute, float on back 30 seconds, submerge and swim 10 feet underwater.

 

 

 

American Red Cross CPR/AED/First Aid


The primary purpose of the American Red Cross CPR/AED/First Aid is to help participants recognize and respond appropriately to cardiac, breathing, and first aid emergencies. The courses in this program teach participants the knowledge and skills needed to give immediate care to an injured or ill person and to decide whether advanced medical care is needed.

Prerequisites:

Must be 15 years of age.

Cost:

Y Member: $30 – Non-member: $50 – CCYMCA Employee: FREE

 

 

 

Administering Emergency Oxygen


The primary purpose of the American Red Cross CPR / AED / First Aid is to help participants recognize and respond appropriately to cardiac, breathing, and first aid emergencies. The courses in this program teach participants the knowledge and skills needed to give immediate care to an injured or ill person and to decide whether advanced medical care is needed.

The Administering Emergency Oxygen class prepares participants on how to respond to breathing emergencies and the knowledge of how to deliver emergency oxygen.
